Went to Safari West over the weekend and saw some pretty cool animals. Made me wonder what would a dragon with two or even three spines look like? What about a arboreal slime? Could you picture a slime that launches from tree to tree lurking in the canopy ready to drop down on unsuspecting adventures?
I love going to nature museums and designing new monsters based on exotic animals that live in our world. Add a spine, take away some wings, ect.
One cool aspect about 4e that people don't give it credit for how easy it was to make really cool monsters. I feel like GURPS has the better system built for you to make really cool monsters, but the actual construction time takes a lot longer. That being said both systems really allow for some fun monsters to be created.
I hope to have a contest when we get our web site up that will allow the readers to submit their homebrew monsters and the monster design we like the best will get a free tee shirt, or an autographed book, and written into one of our stories. Until then keep designing your own monsters, feats, powers, advantages, ect.
